UBLUES Fest 2003

UBLUES Fest 2003 -13 and 14 July 2003. SIngapore's Blues, Soul and Funk Experience rocked Fort Canning Park with artistes from USA, Italy, Australia and Singapore, coming together for two days in a celebration of the blues, and paying tribute to the genres that have paved the way for music as we know it today. From the maverick guitar and hammond organ sounds of the Enrico Crievallaro Trio (Italy), the soulful vocals of Mia Dyson, Mandy Gaines and Chelsea J, to the funky grooves of Blue Shaddy band, the enthusiastic audience soaked up the atmosphere and great music, as well as a bit of the rain on Saturday! Thanks especially to these dedicated music lovers, and to all those that came down to help make UBLUES Fest 2003 a wonderful event to remember.

Mia Dyson (above) and her Trio (below) from Australia playing a set of blues, roots and rock to an appreciative audience (sitting with their umbrellas!) and wooing them with her smooth and unique vocal style and guitar sounds.

Chelsea J (above) from Perth, Australia with Trevor Jalla backing (below), kicking of Sunday's event with acoustic blues and folk.

Highly reknown piano and hammond organist, Bill Heid (USA) got the crowd going with a style that shifted seamlessly and without effort between swinging jazz and gutbucket Chicago blues!

The very soulful Mandy Gaines (USA) brought the house down with a stellar performance on Sunday, backed by ChromaZone of Harry's Bar.

Blue Shaddy (Australia), back by popular demand and UBLUES Fest 2002 crowd favourites, return to give the 2003 event an irresistable funky groove, driven by a gutsy rhythm section, wild harmonica playing and the vocals and guitar sounds of Jim McClelland (below)

Local funksters Soul Satisfaction giving the crowd some old-school grooves, 70s style!

Below - Sunday night saw the festival come to a climax with an All-Star Jam, featuring festival artistes and special guests, hosted by ublues and Enrico Crivellaro Trio, onstage together for the first time (2 bands!) and inviting guests such as Kelvin "Smokey" Ng on harmonica and Victor Chen. Mandy Gaines took the frontstage towards the end of the night as everyone got into the fun and good times, leaving the crowd calling for more!

Its was a great weekend for audiences and musicians alike. See you at UBLUES Fest 2004!
